We're building a house! We're so excited to launch

We're building a house! We're so excited to launch Purpose Homes, our sister organization dedicated to new affordable home builds. We're starting with one this year but we've got more planned for the coming years.

Purpose Homes has been in the works since 2019, but the pandemic, material cost increases, and supply chain issues on top of all the other usual delays means that we're getting started on our first build in the next couple of months, and that we're extra excited to do so (it's about time!).

Teamwork really does make the dream work and we can't thank our partners enough for their willingness to help. @transconaroofing,@qualicocommunitieswpg, @bockstaelconstruction, @homedepot and DJN Excavating for their materials, training, and services. @homedepotfoundation, @litewinnipeg, Home Depot - Orange Door Foundation, the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg for their funding contributions.

We're excited to start sharing profiles on the folks and organizations that have helped make these homes a reality.

They also need to have excellent time management skills, the ability to work to and manage competing deadlines, and be a great communicator. We're looking for a special someone to join our team. We're starting a new division and we need someone to lead it. This person needs to have construction training/mentorship experience and be looking to continue training/mentoring a diverse group of folks. It would be ideal if this person had siding installation experience, but we're willing to provide training in it for the right person. We work with some awesome folks and we’d like you to meet them.

First up: Joey!

Joey started in 2011 or 2012 (what is time?) and has grown to be a go to for all things bed bug, sanitization, garbage and cockroach. Glamorous stuff, right? It may seem gross, but these are things that directly impact people’s quality of life, so the work that Joey and the rest of the team does is super important.

Joey’s ability to adapt and get the job done, along with his sense of humour (you have to have one if you’re going to work with bugs and garbage) are just two of the reasons we’re so happy he’s part of the Purpose Team.

We’re feeling like this January has been a month of Mondays. We could use some goodness, so here are some stats we’re pretty proud of. Proud because we’ve gotten to meet and work with amazing people and proud because each of these projects makes a difference in our city.

Back in December (when it felt okay to see people

Back in December (when it felt okay to see people indoors, even with masks. Oh how the times have changed) we were fortunate to show MLA Bernadette Smith around our Mountain project. We love showing people around this project, especially when they’re folks who get what we’re doing.

While we’re putting a pause on tours because of the current wave of covid, we can’t wait to get back to showing this project off.

No better time to think about the weekend than Monday morning. If you’re looking for a way to support the work we do AND have some laughs, this is for you. Also, you get a toque which is great because it’s fully winter outside.

We held our AGM a couple weeks ago. While we weren’t able to meet in person, we were able to get together and talk about the things our awesome little company did this past wild and (still) rocky year.

When we talk about how we’re different, this is a great example of what we mean. We employ folks who don’t get jobs elsewhere. We employ folks (Women! Talk about a thing that shouldn’t be a thing in 2021!) who are underrepresented in other construction companies. We help provide a space for people to learn and grow, and to make lasting friendships.

Here’s to more of this next year, and all the years that follow.
